The True Spirit of Home

Harmony. Vibrance. Freedom. Purity.

Setting a beautiful dinner table or making a bed with freshly laundered linens are a few simple pleasures I enjoy in life, especially in the summertime when we can dine el fresco or open windows to feel a fresh breeze.

When setting a table I like to turn to a great everyday dish, such as the new “Country Estate” Collection from Juliska. This collection is like a little black dress or a great pair of jeans: It goes with everything and you can dress it up or down.

Belgian table linens from Libeco Home are classic and timeless. Layered with the vibrant colors of spices and hand-blocked patterns of John Robshaw textiles the look is a mix of sophistication and romantic allure.  Uncrate that heirloom silver or bring inside your terra cotta (leave the moss on) and mix it up with Italian pewter stemware, trays and bowls from Match, handmade by artisans in Northern Italy.

Go out into your yard and pick a bountiful armful of greenery and flowers and layer your table with linens and textures hard and soft, light the candles inhale...exhale.... enjoy.

SOFA WITH A VIEW:
Find it @ Paysage! This sofa is unique with its high sides and scooped back. It’s perfect for a grand space or a room with a stunning view.  Float it in the room backed by a nice sized console or back it up to a picturesque window. Snuggle into the corner with a good book or glass of vino (don’t worry, it’s a coverall so you can wash it if you have a spill!)

FLOWER OF THE MONTH:
Sweet Peas! Sweet peas are flourishing right now! Find them growing everywhere. Our wonderful stylist, Michele Kilpatrick, pulled over on the highway to pick some the other day. Although we can’t recommend going to this extreme to seek out these beauties, we do think they are worth it!

ANIMAL INSPIRED:
Find it @ Paysage! We are animal lovers here at Paysage! And when it comes to interiors we like to playfully add a touch of furry friend style (preferably faux, please). These small stools and side tables give a touch of cool and sense of humor to any vignette.

HUMMINGBIRDS:
Find it @ Paysage! These little creatures are such a delight to see in nature and excite even the most experienced bird watcher. These beautiful framed prints show the various colors and details of several hummingbirds. They look great displayed in sets of two or four, and will surely charm a bare wall.

OUTDOOR LIGHTING:
These outdoor string lights are made with hand-blown glass and are solar powered! Create the perfect ambiance by picking from four color options. Beautiful day & night!  Find it here.

BED SWING:
Find it @ Paysage! Nothing beats unwinding on a porch swing until the bed swing came along. Brought to you by some low-country living, and made in North Carolina. Relaxing outdoors just got a lot more  horizontal and comfortable.

Recipe

Grilled Haloumi with Watermelon

If you are saying, “ Halloumi what? Huh!?” Then let me go a head and say, “you’re welcome.” You will be thanking us for this little Greek GRILLABLE cheese. It is salty, firm, and incredibly pleasing to the palette.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup coarsely chopped fresh basil
  • 3 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh mint (save some think slices for garnish)
  • 1 garlic clove coarsely chopped
  • ½ cup EVO plus a wee bit more for brushing
  • Kosher sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • ¾ lbs. cherry tomatoes on the vine
  • 1 89-ounce package Halloumi cheese, cut crosswise into 8 slices
  • 6 small triangles thinly sliced watermelon, sans rind

Prep:

Bring the grill to a medium heat. Puree the basil, mint, and garlic in a blender, while blending add ½ cup EVO. Set a strainer over a small bowl and strain, press the solids. Season with salt and pepper.

Brush grill with EVO. Drizzle 2 tablespoons basil-mint oil over tomatoes and cheese. Season with salt and pepper, Grill tomatoes, turning occasionally until charred and bursting (about 4 minutes.) Grill cheese until nicely charred in spots and beginning to melt (about 45 seconds per side.)

Arrange melon on a platter. Top with cheese and tomatoes. Drizzle remaining herb oil over; garnish with sliced mint.
