Fresh Approach to Holiday Decorating

Because the world seems to be spinning faster these days, doesn’t a simple, fresh and easy approach to decorating for the Holidays sound delightful?

Here is a prescription that I heard for finding happiness in this life:
           Someone to love,
           Something to do and
           Something to look forward to!

Decorating this Holiday Season can be as easy as “clip clip clip”!  You would be amazed at what you have waiting in your own backyard……evergreens are certainly an option, but don’t forget those lovely camellias, boxwood, and of course, magnolia!

You can really do it up BIG with a combination of those three as well: over doors, windows, mantels, and railings!  There is something very refreshing about freshly cut greens in the house.  Even if they don’t have a fragrance, they will clean the air and look crisp and festive.

And it’s FREE! Communing with your yard is an extra added attraction! If you have neighbors that can’t get out or aren’t very creative, cut some to share, which brings light to everyone involved.

Our Paysage Family wishes you joy, peace and happiness during the Holiday Season!

Pandora
PANDORA STATION OF THE MONTH:
Holiday music softens all the hard edges and warms the spirit, reminding us all about the magic of the season. We have been enjoying the Michael Buble holiday music station. Listen Now!

Cocktail of the Season:
Quoit Club Punch
This punch, created by Jasper Crouch, was enjoyed by the Quoit Club in Richmond, Virginia, whose members included U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall. Check out the Recipe
Antique Bells

Antiqued metal bells, each with a wooden clapper and strung together with natural twine. Hang them on your front door, drape them along the mantle with fresh greens, or twist them through your Holiday centerpiece.

Flower of the Season:

Evergreen, Magnolia, Bay Leaves, Boxwood, Camellias, and so much more to choose from, just look in your backyard. Whether making a wreath, a swag, or garland fresh greens are where you start. For a centerpiece or arrangement add some berries, large two-toned roses, and maybe even an unexpected succulent or artichoke. Or go with simple greens and a delicate velvet ribbon. Let the creative juices flow!

Hurricanes:
Find it @ Paysage!
We find so many ways to use our various size hurricanes. This time of year we like to put a little something festive in the base such as ornaments or a little faux frost. The textured glass looks snow kissed and you can ditch the candle and place some exquisite glittery pinecone branches for a little extra drama.

Some of the most intoxicating candles we have come across, NEST has perfected the holiday fragrance with a fresh and delicate scent. Available in a diffuser or various candle sizes. Might we suggest the small golden votives to add some razzle and dazzle?

Driftwood Garland:
Find it @ Paysage!
We fell for this garland the moment we saw it. It looks incredible on the mantle mixed with fresh greens or even alone with sweet ornaments hanging from it. Best of all, this garland can be used beyond the holiday. Take it to the beach house and mix in with a huge bowl of treasured shells.
Recipe

Saffron Oysters

Impress your guests this Holiday Season with this sophisticated and delicious hors d’ oeuvre.

Ingredients:
  • 1 piece leek, approx. 10 cm long
  • 50 ml white wine
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 pinches sugar
  • salt & pepper
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 sachet saffron threads (0.1 g)
  • 2 tbsp crème fraîche
  • Approx. 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 12 oysters
Preparation:

Trim and wash the leek and shred finely lengthwise. Put the wine into a small pan and bring to the boil. Add the leek, cover and cook for about 1/2 minute, then take out of the pan. Mix the oil with 1 tbsp of the wine from the pan, 1 pinch of sugar and a little salt and pepper. Stir in the leeks.

Put the egg yolks into a metal bowl with 1 pinch of sugar, 2-3 tbsp of the wine from the leek pan and the saffron and beat over a bain-marie until pale and creamy. Stir in the crème fraîche. Season the saffron sabayon with salt and pepper and add lemon juice to taste.

Carefully open the oysters with an oyster knife and place on a platter of crushed ice - so that they will keep nice and fresh. Put a little of the sabayon and a little shredded leek on each oyster. Add a touch more of the sabayon preparation and broil until golden

Enjoy!
