Week of WOW

Cleveland, OH

WOW! WOW! WOW! What more can you say about Paysage’s Week of Wow event, celebrating our twenty-fifth anniversary?

The city of Cleveland Heights recognized the event and Paysage’s success, by presenting Richard and Jane Marquard with a plaque commemorating the anniversary. Old and new friends visited, were wowed by the showroom, the energy, the food and the presentations, and returned home with beautiful furniture, accessories and artwork.

The showroom never looked as fresh, as exciting, as fashion forward, as it did this week.  The atmosphere was, in part, created by one of the largest displays ever assembled, of late textile designer, Paule Marrot’s artwork from Natural Curiosities.  Our guests marveled at the vibrant colors, the floral designs and patterns, and the artist’s obvious joi de vivre.

Furthering the textile theme of the week, John Robshaw, founder of John Robshaw Textiles spoke to an enthusiastic group about his forays to Asia and India to learn the secrets and dying techniques of native cultures to create his signature look; an updated spin on the exotic, a vibrant mix of sophisticated and romantic allure. John Robshaw bedding, pillows and accessories filled the upstairs at Paysage creating an inviting, Bohemian aerie.  One that diminished as his products went home with delighted buyers.

The cocktail party on Wednesday evening was well attended by our friends, clients, new acquaintances and the design community. The festive tent, overflowing with candles drew enthusiastic crowds imagining themselves in an exotic corner of the world.

Raise your glasses to toast another twenty-five years of Paysage success….a meaningful and amazing experience!!

COLLAGE WALL:
Find it @ Paysage! What could be more interesting than a wall scattered in beautiful black and white sketches, framed delicately in gold and silver? One could stare at this for hours letting the details within reveal themselves.

FLOWER OF THE MONTH:
Flowering branches scream spring has sprung. We particularly love the flowering crab apple this time of year. Large branches displayed with an effortless toss into a vase is simple and beautiful.

SOLE MATES:
Although we are strong believers in Soul mates, that is not the type we are bringing to your attention at this moment. We are talking about the most clever invention possibly ever in the history of fashion. These tiny doodads will save you at outdoor events this season. Put the “have to wedges” aside and dare to wear those dazzling new heels. Check it Out Here!

BONKERS FOR BASKETS:
Find it @ Paysage! Extra small, small, medium, large, extra large, huge, and nesting: baskets are our favorite way to organize the chaos. Don’t over think it.

TREND ALERT:
Move over taupe, and hello PLUM. With a deep brown base and a touch of smoky purple, Plum is mysterious, interesting and sophisticated. Great for upholstery fabrics, beautiful wallpapers, living room, home office, or dining room interior paint, not to mention decorating accessories.

BIG BEAUTY:
Find it @ Paysage! Most things in life are better in moderation, but not when it comes to the comfort of a sofa. We are in love with this over sized sofa. Not only is the frame gorgeous and cushions cozy, but it also has some starch to stay looking fit.

MUSIC:
Pandora Station of the Month: Cleveland has been soaking in the smooth sounds of the Jazzanova Station. Click to Listen.

PAYSAGE SIGNATURE:
Find it @ Paysage!  Speaking of plum, one of our favorite, simple cocktails is a glass of champagne (frankly we prefer Prosecco) and for a touch of fun, we add a small drop of our French Farm’s Cassis Syrup. Some of you might have had this at our cocktail parties or sip n’ shop nights.

THIS OR THAT:
Find it @ Paysage! We are loving the paint lately. Between bright and coastal and fine-tuned patinas, our artisan vendors have nailed the look and we know there really is something for everyone when it comes to the finishing options.

Recipe

Seared Scallops with Pimentón Aioli and Charred Scallions

seared scallops
Serves Two
1/2 pound large diver scallops
Wondra flour
1/2 cup light mayonnaise
1 clove garlic
large pinch cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon pimentón (sweet Spanish smoked paprika)
juice of half a lemon
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon water
2 bunches scallions, rinsed and trimmed

For the Aioli:

Finely chop the garlic, add a pinch of kosher salt, and mash it into a fine paste by scraping back and forth across your cutting board with the side of a chef's knife.  Combine it in a mixing bowl with the mayonnaise, cayenne, pimentón, lemon juice, olive oil and water.  Stir well to combine and add salt if needed.  If making well in advance, refrigerate until 45 minutes before serving.

For the Scallops:
Heat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat.  Dry the scallops on paper towels, season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, and dust one side with Wondra flour.  Shake loose any excess flour and then place – don't drop – each scallop into the hot pan.  Sear for two minutes, or until a deep golden crust develops, then flip gently with tongs.  Cook for another minute or so, depending on the thickness, until the scallops are medium rare.  Remove from the pan, blot excess oil on a paper towel, and serve.

For the Scallions:
As you're heating the scallop pan, heat a gas grill or large skillet.  Dry the scallions on paper towels, drizzle with a tablespoon of olive oil, season with kosher salt, and place on the hot grill or skillet.  Cook until a light char develops, then turn and char the other side.  Remove from the heat and serve warm with the pimentón aioli and roasted potatoes.
